Tooth-Colored Fillings Protect Teeth…Beautifully!
Repairing a damaged tooth is crucial to preserve your smile and improve your oral health. If you have a cavity, then a filling is typically the prescribed dental treatment. But don’t equate the word “filling” with dark amalgam. Henderson NV dentist Dr. Heeyup Ghim applies white fillings that blend seamlessly with your natural smile. Smile big and laugh out loud – no one will ever know that you had a cavity!
Cavity Correction 101
A cavity is, essentially, a hole in a tooth created by decay-causing bacteria. To preserve the life of the tooth, the decayed portion must be removed and a strong, long-lasting substance is placed in the tooth to restore form and function. In the past, metal fillings were the norm. Today, white fillings provide a durable, aesthetic alternative to metal.
The Makeup of a Tooth-Colored Filling
White fillings are created from composite resin. This material bonds securely with the natural tooth structure to protect and strengthen teeth. Metal fillings can contract and expand in reaction to cold and heat, creating tiny cracks that allow bacteria to invade. The stable nature of composite resin resists contraction and expansion to remain strong for the long term.
Customized Care at Black Mountain Dental
If you need a cavity filled, Dr. Ghim will tint a small amount of composite resin to match your natural tooth color. He’ll place the composite resin in your prepared tooth, and he’ll use a special, non-invasive curing lamp to harden the material. After some polishing and fine tuning, your tooth will look natural, feel comfortable, and function as intended.
In addition to filling newly discovered cavities with tooth-colored composite resin, Dr. Ghim removes old metal fillings for replacement with tooth-colored ones.
